A is for… Artist’s Sketchbook

A is for Artist’s Sketchbook. Keeping a sketchbook is not just for artists. A sketchbook can be used for ideas or inspiration. Whether you use it to clear out the mess of your head or use it in a more organised fashion e.g. for a specific project – a sketchbook is a great addition to your notebook collection.

I previously didn’t use a sketchbook for anything other than drawing and sketching when I was in an artistic mood, but a relatively recent purchase has shown me that it can be used as productively as a notebook.

There is of course no right or wrong way to put together an “ideas” sketchbook – mine (pictured) was purchased in an airport duty free because it was affordable, cute and hard-wearing. Seeing my OH who is an engineer use a sketchbook for brainstorming inspired me to find a productive use for the old-school artist’s sketchbook.

Got an old (or new) sketchbook lying around and don’t know what to do with it? Want to use it in a productive manner? Use it for website or blogging ideas, home improvements / dream house, business ideas, inspiration at work, recipes/cooking, learning a new skill or hobby or even studying/revision.

The possibilities are endless.

Let me know what you use your sketchbooks for in the comments.

  1. I really like the idea of using a sketchbook to brainstorm ideas for writing works in progress. The absence of lines might help shake my brain out of the ruts it can get into when I’ve been working on a project for a long time.

(And that sketchbook really is very cute…)

  2. Great idea. I’ve been carrying around various notebooks the past few years. Every time I pick up a new one, I try to transfer all my old ideas into the new book. I wish I would use up all those “great” ideas from the old book before I get a new one. It should be a rule, don’t you think? Oh well. Thanks for the post! 🙂

  3. Being an artist, I believe in the power of keeping a sketchbook! Although i think better in pictures and sketches, my sketchbooks always end up being lists and more lists. But they’re still helpful! 🙂
