Labours of the Months:

Rachel Mulligan is influenced by Medieval art and she particularly loves depictions of the Labours of the Months. She wanted to create a contemporary version. At the time she shared an allotment with three friends. The panels tell the story of a year on the ‘Lottie’. She wanted to reflect the social side of gardening, as well as the hard work and bountiful produce. And it revisits one of her favourite themes, the changing seasons.

The panels were purchased by Godalming Museum with help from the V&A in 2014 and she linked the 12 panels with a border and bird roundels.

Dimensions: Four panels each 59 x 42cm unframed
